Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport women's tennis put together a successful second day at the 2024 ITA Southeast Regional Championships as the Captains wrapped up their appearance in Fredericksburg iwth six singles wins and one doubles victory. Eva Taylor and Lindsey Bergelin made it an All-CNU final in the Blue 2 singles bracket and Taylor captured the bracket championship with her fourth win of the weekend. 

The Captains senior leader, Raine Weis, appeared in the Round of 16 in both singles and doubles on Sunday before bowing out of the prestigious tournament. In singles, ninth-seeded Jay Xiao from Johns Hopkins squeaked by the CNU veteran, pulling out a 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (12-10) victory to advance to the quarterfinals. In doubles, Weis and partner Samantha Robertson fell to ninth-seeded Kamila Wong and Ava Li, also from Hopkins, in an 8-0 final. 

The championship draw consolation bracket saw three CNU Captains earn wins on day two as Robertson took down Marymount's Sofia Lucero (8-1), Mia Linam defeated Shenandoah's Olivia Guzzo (8-1), and Kylie Schaefer breezed past Virginia Wesleyan's Tuva Flink (8-3). Finally, in the championship doubles consolation bracket, Taylor and Erin Gross picked up an 8-4 win over their opponents from Stevens, Sude Aytekin and Milagros Carbajal Diaz. 

But the highlight of the weekend came in the Blue 2 bracket where Eva Taylor and Lindsey Bergelin each won two matches on Saturday to advance to Sunday's semifinal round. First, Taylor outlasted her opponent from Swarthmore, Madeline Posner, to advance to the final with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 win. Then, advancing to meet Taylor in the championship, Bergelin disposed of her opponent from Haverford, Abhishree Menon, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. In the final round, Taylor captured the win over Bergelin, 6-0, 6-4. 

CNU Women's Tennis will close out the fall portion of the schedule in late October with a pair of dual matches at home. CNU will host North Carolina Wesleyan on October 25 before facing off against Johns Hopkins on October 26.
