Jamie Martin was voted the league's Pitcher of the Year, and freshman outfielder
Candace Slaw was tabbed as the Rookie of the Year.
Junior pitcher
Kate Alger and senior outfielder
Katie Currin were named first team All-Conference in addition to Martin and Slaw, Four other Captains were named Honorable Mention All-Conference, as senior second baseman
Caroline Pollock, senior outfielder
Jules Donnelly, fifth-year senior
Delaney Nuckols, and senior third baseman
Brooke Greaver all were recognized.
Martin receives her first Pitcher of the Year honor after being named the Pitcher of the Week in the league seven times this season. The lefty from Lorton, Va., is 10-1 with an earned run average of just 0.85. She has struck out 93 batters in 66 innings, while walking just nine this season. On Tuesday, she was named the National Pitcher of the Week after recording a win and a save in last Saturday's CNU sweep over then top-ranked Salisbury at Captains Park. Martin has been honored by the conference all three of her seasons at CNU, a first team selection as a freshman and honorable mention last year.
Slaw is the first CNU conference Rookie of the Year since Martin received the accolade two years ago. The Warsaw, Va., product has been an exciting addition to the CNU lineup this season, leading off for the Captains and posting a batting average of .491. She has scored a team-high 37 runs, and has stolen 35 bases in 39 attempts, and needs just eight more for the school's single-season record. Slaw was voted the C2C's Player of the Week three times this season.
Alger, a junior from Staunton, Va., receives her third straight league honor from the C2C. After posting a 13-4 record with a 1.87 earned run average, Alger was named first team just as she was last season. Alger was also a second-team pick as a freshman in 2022.
Currin, from Blacksburg, Va., has now been recognized by the C2C for the third straight year as well, and is a first team pick for the first time. She led the Captains with 30 runs batted in this season, and registered a batting average of .341 with four home runs.
Greaver, a senior from Abingdon, Md., receives her third straight conference honor after being a first team honoree the last two seasons. Greaver played in just 21 games due to injury, but hit three home runs and drove in 24 runs for the Captains.
The honorable mention accolades are the first conference honors for Donnelly, a senior from Perry Hall, Md., who hit .395 this season; Nuckols, a fifth-year senior from Rockville, Va., who joined the CNU program and posted a .345 average; and Pollock, a senior from Stafford, Va., who hit four home runs and drove in 24 runs this year.
Christopher Newport, now 28-5 and the third-ranked team in the country, will be the top seed in the upcoming Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. The Captains will host the action at Captains Park beginning Friday. Second-seeded Salisbury will play third-seeded Mary Washington at 2:00 p.m. Friday, with the winner of the game playing the Captains at 5:00 p.m. The three-team, double elimination tourney will continue on Saturday and Sunday if necessary.
