INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Continuing a historic season with a milestone moment on Monday afternoon, the nationally-ranked Christopher Newport women's team earned the program's first-ever selection into the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Team Championship. Additionally, the Captains were awarded a first-round bye and will make their debut appearance in the second round against No. 15 Trinity (Texas) while playing on a neutral court at North Carolina Wesleyan University.
Christopher Newport will travel to N.C. Wesleyan to take on the Tigers (15-4) in the second round. On the other side of the pod, the host Battling Bishops will take on Pitt Greensburg for the right to face Emory in the second round.Â
Matches will be held this weekend, with times to be announced by the host site later this week. Live streaming and live stats will be available for all of the postseason matches. Links can be found on the women's tennis schedule at CNUsports.com.Â
The historic selection puts Christopher Newport in the women's tennis tournament as a team for the first time. The Captains have reached the singles and doubles championships six times previously, as recently as 2021-22 when
Raine Weis and
Tessa Trate qualified as individuals.Â
This year, the Captains captured the program's first Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Championship with a 5-2 win over Mary Washington on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles also earned an at-large berth into the 2024 NCAA Tournament, giving the C2C a pair of representatives in the 49-team field.Â
