NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University Assistant Head Coach
Dominic Parker today was named the new Head Men's Basketball Coach at RIT. The announcement was made by RIT earlier today. Parker has had two stints on
John Krikorian's staff at CNU, and returned to the Captains sideline in June of 2023 as Assistant Head Coach.
"I am so grateful to Coach Parker for his dedication to our student-athletes, basketball program, and community here at Christopher Newport. I know he will make the same positive impact at RIT," Krikorian said.Â
A native of Raleigh, N.C., Parker and the Captains advanced to the Elite 8Â of the NCAA Tournament this past season.
"I'm very proud of our student-athletes and to have been a part of their accomplishments this season," Parker said. "I'm grateful for the opportunity Coach Krikorian and Director of Athletics Kyle McMullin gave me to coach at Christopher Newport. I know the program will continue to be tremendously successful."Â
Parker had been assistant coach at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C., before returning to CNU last season. He originally assisted the Captains during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons and helped the squad to the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) regular-season championship both seasons. In 2018-19, the team won the CAC Tournament Championship and advanced to the NCAA Final Four. Parker was named to the 2018 Under Armour 30-Under-30 program while at CNU.
"It is difficult to express the appreciation I have for the coaches, student-athletes and athletic staff during my time as a Captain and I would be remiss not to mention the profound impact it has had on my professional career," Parker continued. "I'm now looking forward to running my own program at RIT, and I believe it's a great opportunity for me and my family."
