BUENA VISTA, Va. - Christopher Newport University has won five straight games, and the Captains travel to Knight Arena Saturday to take on Southern Virginia University. CNU is 6-2 on the season, while SVU has a mark of 2-4 heading into Saturday's 4:00 p.m. tip off.
John Krikorian's squad is coming off an 82-70 victory on Wednesday night at Marymount University in Arlington, Va. Junior
Isaiah Dozier led the way for the Captains, scoring 17 of his game-high 19 points after halftime. Dozier also contributed eight rebounds and four assists. Junior
Tyson Henderson logged a double-double by pouring in 17 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Henderson also notched seven assists, two steals, and a blocked shot. Dozier and Henderson were joined in double figures in the scoring column by junior
Toa Hollenbeck, who tallied 14 points, and junior
Ethan Ward, who registered 11.
The Knights of Southern Virginia have a record of 2-4 so far, and SVU has won two of its last three games after an 0-3 start. The Knights are coming off a 95-73 victory at Warren Wilson on Tuesday. SVU is coached by Trace Bevell, who is in his third season at the helm and led the Knights to a 19-8 record last season.
CNU and Southern Virginia will be meeting for the 24th time since the series began in 1999. The Captains have won 22 of the first 23 games in the series, and have won the last 12 meetings. CNU is 6-1 all-time at Knight Arena.
