GREENSBORO, N.C. -- In the first regular season rankings of the 2024-25 season there was plenty of movement in the D3hoops.com Top 25 but the Christopher Newport women's basketball team held pat at No. 9 in the nation following their 6-0 start to the year. The Captains will travel to Greensboro College on Tuesday evening to take on the Pride at 5:30 p.m. on the road.
Christopher Newport is in the midst of a six-game swing away from the Freeman Center after capturing a pair of wins at the Jean Edge Classic in North Carolina and then traveling to Pennsylvania for a win at Widener. The travel tilts back to the Tarheel State on Tuesday as the Captains are set to take on their former conference foes at Hanes Gymnasium.
The midweek matchup marks the 87th meeting between the two programs all-time with Christopher Newport boasting a 62-24 advantage in the series. CNU has won six in a row dating back to the 2011-12 season and nine of the last ten.

The Captains earned an 88-65 win at Widener on Saturday in their last outing. Fifth-year senior
Camille Malagar scored 15 points to lead the way offensively while the CNU defense was on top of things again. For the fifth time in six games this season, the Captains defense forced at least 35 turnovers in a game. Malagar has now led the team in scoring in three straight games and is the team's leading scorer this season averaging 11.7 points per game.
Senior
Alexia Lindsey is having a standout start to her season, averaging 6.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. She is also leading the squad in steals with 14 and knocking down 48.1 percent of her shots. Four CNU players have started all six games this season with Lindsey and Malagar being joined by graduate transfer
Sydney Sherman and fifth-year point guard
Gabbi San Diego. Sherman has six steals and five assists while adding nearly three points per game in the starting rotation while San Diego is among the league leaders in assist-to-turnover ratio again, with a 2.0 mark to start the year.
Greensboro will counter with one of the highest ranked defenses in the nation so far, holding opponents to a .278 shooting percentage to rank sixth nationally. The Pride are 2-3 to start the year with wins over Regent and Mid-Atlantic Christian. Most recently, Greensboro traveled to Pfeiffer University and suffered a 72-46 loss in USA South conference action. Nataya Atwater leads the offense with 11.2 points per game while Meah Brooks is adding 10.4 points per game.
Following the trip to Greensboro, the Captains will have a short holiday break before getting back to action over the weekend at Division I Liberty University. The matchup against the Flames, scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, will serve as an exhibition matchup for the Captains and a counted game for Liberty.
