This will be the fifth matchup all-time between the two programs but just the second in the 21st century. CNU and Widener paired off in the opening round of the 2020 NCAA Tournament on a neutral court and the Captains earned an 82-66 win over the Pride. Prior to that, CNU won the previous three matchups in 1985, 1986, and 1991 -- all in Newport News. This will be the first time CNU has traveled to Chester.
The Captains are coming off a thrilling 59-54 win against nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins in the Jean Edge Classic hosted by North Carolina Wesleyan. The CNU defense held the Blue Jays without a point for the final 3:34 of the game while closing on a 6-0 run to capture the win. Conference Player of the Week
