NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Looking to continue it's hot streak at home, the fifth-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team returns to the Freeman Center on Wednesday evening to face Meredith College (5-10) for a 6:00 p.m. tip. The Captains have won 46 in a row on C.J. Woollum Court and boast the second longest active home winning streak in NCAA women's basketball.

CNU is off to a 17-1 start to the season and takes on a Meredith squad for the 18th time in all-time series history. CNU is 16-1 against the Angels, including an 8-0 mark at home. Meredith is coming into the game off a win over William Peace and the Angels have won four of their last six games.Â
The Captains are coming off an 86-39 win at Salisbury on Saturday evening that saw CNU hold an opponent to under 40 points for the first time this year. The dominant defensive performance included holding the Sea Gulls to just 27.8 percent shooting (15-54) from the field while forcing 33 turnovers. On the offensive end,
Alivia Giles had a game-high 17 points and went on to garner C2C Player of the Week recognition after also scoring a career-high 28 earlier in the week against Marymount.Â
This season, CNU leads Division III in points scored in the 2023-24 season while boasting the 16th-ranked scoring offense in the nation with 78.1 points per game. Sophomore
McKenna Snively has knocked down a team-high 29 three-pointers this season while
Nicole Timko has added 21 from beyond the arc. As a team, CNU is hitting over 6.4 triples per game led by the two sophomores while classmate
Hailey Kellogg has added 11 and rookie Caitin Crump has pitched in 10.Â
Meredith will counter the Captains' balanced attack with a defense that is allowing 65.3 points per game. In five wins this season, the Avenging Angels have surrendered an average of just 50.4 points per game including a stretch of three straight games allowing fewer than 50 points. Piper Carriere leads the team with 11.0 points per game while also dishing 2.7 assists per contest. Rylie Wade is the top player in the front court, averaging over eight rebounds per game while adding just under six points per contest.Â
Following the Wednesday evening matchup, the Captains will welcome Warren Wilson on Saturday, January 20 in a doubleheader with the men's teams. Tip off from the Freeman Center is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
