SALISBURY, Md. --
The top-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will hit the road on Saturday at 1 p.m. for a Coastal Lacrosse Conference showdown against No. 4 Salisbury at Sea Gull Stadium.

Entering the weekend, the Captains sit at 12-0 overall and 5-0 on the road. Meanwhile, Salisbury is 10-1 with a 5-0 mark at home. The Sea Gulls have won 34 consecutive home games dating back to February 8, 2020. That stands as the longest active streak in the nation and the fifth-best run in the history of Division III lacrosse.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at SUSeaGulls.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Christopher Newport is coming off of its fifth victory over a nationally-ranked opponent this year after knocking off No. 11 Lynchburg, 14-13, in an overtime thriller last Saturday. Against the Hornets, Alex Brendes landed five goals, including the game-winner in the 64th minute. Andrew Cook also had five points, including the equalizer in the last second of regulation and the assist on Brendes' clincher.

Equally impressive on the defensive side, Zac Hanway pocketed 13 saves and had a game-changing, man-down takeaway in the extra session to set up the offensive heroics. Ryan Young also chipped in with four caused turnovers, while Burke Widhelm notched three.

Overall this season, the Captains are averaging over 12 takeaways per game, which leads the Coastal Lacrosse Conference. On an individual level, Young has 32 strips, which already stands as the ninth-most in program history.

Young is one of several players with historic totals so far this season. Warner Cabaniss has 134 ground balls, which is just one shy of matching his own single-season school record. Brett Jackson also has 11 man-up tallies, which ranks second in the NCAA and equals the program standard set by Will Geise in 2017.

Jackson's 44 total goals also rank ninth on the all-time charts, while Cook is 10th with 43. Additionally, Coby Auslander and Drew Miller already slot in the school's top-10 in assists. Auslander is seventh with 29 helpers this year, while Miller is ninth with 25.

Salisbury is coming off of a 17-12 win at Stockton last Saturday. Cross Ferrara led the Sea Gulls with nine points and seven goals. For that performance, he was celebrated as the Coastal Lacrosse Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

So far this season, Ferrara is 17th in the nation with a 3.91 goals-per-game average. Jude Brown is also 13th in helpers-per-contest with a 2.91 mark. Aided by those efforts, Salisbury ranks eighth in the NCAA in scoring offense (17.73 goals per game) and fifth in shooting percentage (.364).

In 15 previous meetings between the two programs, Salisbury holds a 13-2 edge in the series. The squads split a pair of meetings last year with the Captains posting a 17-7 win in the regular season before the Sea Gulls responded with a 15-10 triumph in the league playoffs.

Following this weekend's battle, Christopher Newport will continue conference action on April 15 with a trip to Stockton at 1 p.m.
