NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The fourth-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will return home for the first time in a month when the Captains host Kean in the regular season finale on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Jennings Family Stadium.

Entering the weekend, Christopher Newport sits at 14-1, including 3-1 in the Coastal Lacrosse Conference. Meanwhile, Kean is 10-5 and 0-3 in league play.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video broadcast of the action will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

In addition to being the last game of the regular season, Saturday's contest will also serve as Christopher Newport's annual Senior Day. Prior to the game, the Captains will hold an on-field ceremony honoring this year's senior class.

Coming into Saturday's game, the program's fourth-year standouts boast a combined 50-10 record since the start of 2020. During that time, they have helped carry the program to a pair of NCAA Tournament berths, including a run to the Final Four in 2021. Along the way, they have 16 wins against nationally-ranked competition while spending five weeks at the top of the USILA National Coaches Poll.

Continuing their success in 2023, the Captains currently slot among the NCAA leaders in a variety of categories. The team is sixth in clearing percentage (.900), seventh in shooting percentage (.357), and 10th in scoring offense (17.67 goals per game). Christopher Newport also boasts some of the strongest units in both man-up and man-down situations.

When shorthanded, the Captains kill off 80 percent of the opposition's power play opportunities, which ranks 18th in the country. Meanwhile, on the other end, the team successfully capitalizes on 47 percent of its extra-man situations. That slots 16th in the NCAA.

Fittingly, several senior standouts are at the forefront of the team's success this year. Coby Auslander ranks 28th in the country with a 2.53 assists-per-game average, while Andrew Cook is in the top-50 with a 3.33 goals-per-game rate. Additionally, on the other end of the field, Zac Hanway enters Saturday tied for the all-time program record with 44 career victories, and Ryan Young has 102 takeaways, which equals former legend Drew Cornell for third on the career charts.

Kean enters the weekend on a three-game skid, including a 12-8 setback against Montclair State on Wednesday. However, the Cougars were deadlocked at 11 in the third quarter against Mary Washington before the game was suspended due to lightning delays on April 15. That contest will resume in Fredericksburg on Sunday.

So far this season, Kean boasts a sturdy offense that ranks 18th in the nation in man-up success (.462) and 30th in assists-per-contest (9.20). On an individual level, Anthony Porter stands third in the league with 36 assists, while Dylan Johnson is seventh with 38 goals. Meanwhile, Max Stevens has won 52 percent of his faceoff attempts, and Devin Reppert boasts a .533 save percentage and 10.25 goals-against-average.

Saturday's meeting will mark the first all-time match-up between Kean and Christopher Newport.
