GALLOWAY, N.J. --
Wrapping up a three-game road trip, the fourth-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will head to Stockton on Saturday at 1 p.m. for a Coastal Lacrosse Conference battle at the Stockton Turf Field.

Entering the weekend, Christopher Newport sits at 12-1 overall, including 1-1 in league action. Meanwhile, Stockton is 10-3 with a 2-1 record against conference foes.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at StocktonAthletics.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

The Captains are coming off of their first setback of the season after dropping a 16-8 decision at Salisbury last Saturday. Against the nationally-ranked Sea Gulls, Danny McMinn and Alex Brendes both scored twice, while Coby Auslander chipped in with his 30th assist of the season. That marked his 41st consecutive game with at least one point dating back to April 20, 2021, matching the longest scoring streak in program history.

On the defensive side, Ryan Young collected three takeaways, including the 100th of his career. He became just the fourth Captain to reach that mark, joining former All-Americans Phoenix Hines and Max Wayne as well as longtime legend Drew Cornell.

Rounding out the history-makers last week, Warner Cabaniss collected his 136th ground ball of the season. That established a new program record, topping his own mark of 135 set in 2022.

Despite the setback, Christopher Newport continues to rank among the NCAA leaders in a variety of categories. The Captains are eighth nationally in man-up offense (.491), ninth in clearing percentage (.886), and 16th in scoring offense (16.38 goals per game). The squad also sits 12th in the country with a .650 faceoff percentage.

On an individual level, Cabaniss is 10th in ground balls per game (10.46) and 16th in faceoff percentage (.671). Meanwhile, on the offensive side, Brett Jackson slots second with 11 man-up goals. That also equals the single-season program record, matching the mark originally set by Will Geise in 2017.

Stockton enters the weekend on a two-game roll after knocking off Mary Washington and Kean in back-to-back league bouts. Over the past month, the Ospreys have dropped just two decisions, and both came in close battles against nationally-ranked competition. The team fell to No. 16 Swarthmore, 15-11, on March 15 before stumbling against No. 2 Salisbury, 17-12, on April 1.

Featuring a high-powered attack, Stockton currently ranks 12th in the NCAA in scoring offense (16.85 goals per game). Leading the way, Luc Swedlund is averaging 4.62 goals per contest, which places him third in the NCAA. Meanwhile, Tyler Horvath has helped control possession, ranking sixth in ground balls per contest (10.85) while sporting a .585 faceoff percentage. On the back end, Colin Bernstein has a .488 save percentage and 13.47 goals-against-average.

Saturday's game will mark the first time Christopher Newport and Stockton have faced off in men's lacrosse.

After this weekend, the Captains will return home on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. showdown with Southern Virginia at Jennings Family Stadium.
