Live Stats // Video Stream

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
After an eight-day layoff, the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will be back in action on Sunday at noon when the Captains host Denison in a non-conference showdown at Jennings Family Stadium.

Entering the weekend, Christopher Newport sits at 2-5 on the season, including 1-5 at home. Meanwhile, Denison is currently 2-5 with a 1-3 mark on the road. Prior to Sunday's game, the Big Red will face a neutral-site test against No. 6 Salisbury on Saturday at Jennings Family Stadium.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of Sunday's contest will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

The Captains are coming off of a pair of hard-fought setbacks to nationally-ranked opponents last week. On Wednesday, the squad dropped a 6-4 decision to No. 16 Chicago before suffering an 11-8 loss to No. 14 Messiah on Saturday. Overall this season, four of the program's five setbacks have come against top-20 opponents, while the team also boasts a 15-14 win at No. 24 Haverford.

During the two games last week, Kelsey Winters led the squad with five assists, including the 151st of her career. That set a new program record, topping the previous mark of 150 established by Christopher Newport Hall of Famer Meghan Harkey from 2008-11. Winters now has 155 helpers in her career, which stands as the third-highest total by any active player in the NCAA.

Along with Winters, Syd Guidi landed four goals last week, while Julia Iapicca had two to go along with four ground balls, four takeaways, and six draw controls.

On Saturday against Messiah, Christopher Newport also received key contributions from some of the youngest members of the team. Freshman goalie Hadley Chadwick made seven saves against the Falcons, including one on a free-position attempt. Meanwhile, fellow first-year standout Brookelyn Morrison chipped in with a goal, while Celia Kelaher added two takeaways and Maddie Tomaszewski collected a pair of draw controls.

Making contributions throughout her debut campaign, Morrison has started all seven games and ranks fourth on the team with 12 points and second with 17 draw controls. Meanwhile, Kelaher is second on the squad with 10 takeaways, while Chadwick has a .436 save percentage and 9.95 goals-against-average to go along with the victory against No. 24 Haverford.

Denison enters the weekend after splitting a pair of games in Colorado Springs last week. The Big Red took down St. Mary's (Md.), 16-9, during a neutral-site tilt before falling at Colorado College, 17-9. Similar to the Captains, DU has played a difficult schedule so far this year, including setbacks against No. 9 Gettysburg, No. 14 Chicago, and No. 18 Roanoke.

So far this season, Allaire Kotz leads Denison with 18 points and eight assists, while Josie Lucchesi has a team-high 15 goals. Defensively, five members of the team have at least five takeaways, including Emma Repke, who leads the way with eight. In the crease, Caroline O'Dea has a .404 save percentage and 14.88 goals-against-average, while her 61 saves place her 44th on the national charts.

A perennial power, Denison has advanced to eight straight NCAA Tournaments, including a trip to the third round last year. Sunday's showdown will mark the first meeting between Denison and Christopher Newport in women's lacrosse.

After this weekend, the Captains will remain at home on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. tilt against Lynchburg.
