Live Stats // Video Stream

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
After three straight games on the road, the second-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will return home on Saturday at 6 p.m. when the Captains host Hampden-Sydney in a non-conference test at Jennings Family Stadium.

Entering the weekend, Christopher Newport sits at 9-0 on the season, including 5-0 at home. Meanwhile, Hampden-Sydney is 5-2 overall and 2-1 on the road.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a broadcast of the action will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

The Captains are coming off of their third straight victory over a top-10 opponent after upending No. 6 Washington & Lee, 16-11, on Wednesday. During that battle, Alex Brendes and Brett Jackson both landed five goals. With his performance, Brendes pushed his total to 129 career goals, moving past former legend Matt Crist for the second-most in school history.

Coby Auslander also handed out three assists during the victory, including the 100th of his decorated tenure. Overall, he now has 101 career helpers, just five shy of matching Crist's all-time standard.

Rounding out Wednesday's history-makers, Andrew Cook scored in his 28th consecutive game dating back to last year. That stands as the longest scoring streak in school history, topping All-American Dylan Rice's run of 27 straight outings with a goal from April 24, 2021 through May 21, 2022.

Along with the historic performances on Wednesday, Drew Miller also contributed four points, while Will Mercado and Daniel Siaton also found the back of the cage. On the other end of the field, Zac Hanway pitched in with 12 saves, marking his third straight appearance with double-digit stops. Additionally, Warner Cabaniss won 19 of his 30 faceoffs and collected 10 ground balls.

Overall this season, Cabaniss is averaging 12.11 ground balls per game, which ranks fifth in the NCAA. Jackson also slots second in the country with nine man-up strikes, while Auslander is fourth with 27 assists and Cook is fifth with 36 goals.

As a team, Christopher Newport ranks 11th in the country in scoring offense (18.11 goals per game) and faceoff percentage (.705). The team is also 14th in clearing percentage (.884) and 15th in man-up offense (.523).

Hampden-Sydney comes into the weekend on a three-game roll, including a 17-9 triumph over Randolph-Macon in the squad's league opener last Saturday. Overall, the Tigers' only two setbacks this season have come against nationally-ranked foes. The team dropped a 13-8 decision to No. 17 Denison and a 16-7 result at No. 18 Cabrini.

Overall this year, Hampden-Sydney is seventh in the NCAA in clearing percentage (.897). The Tigers have also turned the ball over just 16 times per game, which stands as the 11th-best rate in the country. On an individual level, Ray O'Brien leads the team with 29 points and 20 goals, while Nick Thompson has 10 assists and a .463 faceoff percentage. Defensively, Nick Morgan has 15 takeaways, while Will Perry has a .524 save percentage and 9.92 goals-against-average.

Saturday's contest will mark the 17th meeting between the two programs with Christopher Newport holding a 9-7 edge in the series. Last year, the Captains picked up a 19-7 win behind a six-point showcase from Miller.

After this weekend, Christopher Newport will return to action on March 29 when the squad hosts Williams at 2 p.m.
