WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Three Captains posted top-ten individual scoring finishes in the second round as Christopher Newport women's golf finished fourth place at the Williams Golf Championship in Massachusetts. Powered by a 74-75-76 finish from the top three Captains on day two, CNU wrapped up the 36-hole event at +58 with a 626 (315-311).
Sophomore
Alex Delgado had the best round of the day for CNU, shooting up 17 spots on the individual leaderboard to take 17th by herself. Delgado signed for the three-over 74 and finished her two day tournament at 156 (82-74) with a 14-over par showing. Rookie
Katie Watson moved up as well, carding a four-over 75 and securing the first top-ten showing of her young career. Watson fired a ten-over 152 (77-75) and moved up into a tie for eighth place overall.
Adding another top-five effort in her illustrious career, senior
Lauren Sims tied for third with a six-over 148. She paired her opening round one-over 72 with a five-over 76 on day two and finished the two-day tournament just two strokes back from individual medalist honors.
The trio finished in the top ten in the second round with just two golfers carding better than 74 on day two.
Elena Rezac (+28) and
Julia Pelletier (+31) rounded out the Captains performance this weekend. Rezac was 15-over with an 86 and Pelletier just one stroke behind her with a 16-over 87 on day two.
Christopher Newport will return to action next week at the VSGA Women's Intercollegiate hosted at the Goodyear Golf Club in Danville, Va. First round action begins on Monday, October 3.
