WASHINGTON, D.C. --
For the first time in over two weeks, the Christopher Newport field hockey team will hit the road as the Captains travel to Catholic on Wednesday for a non-conference tilt at Cardinal Stadium beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Entering the midweek match-up, Christopher Newport currently sits at 4-3 overall, including 1-1 on the road. Meanwhile, Catholic is 3-3 with a 1-2 mark at home.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at CatholicAthletics.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Christopher Newport is coming off of a four-game homestand in which the squad posted a 2-2 record. Headlining the squad's efforts, Emily Evans erupted for five goals during that stretch, while Marcella Sabbagh converted three penalty strokes. Additionally, Delaney Norr and Emma Logue had six points apiece to help round out a well-balanced offensive attack.

On the defensive side, Lily Kerr and Gabi Gray combined for a 1.50 goals-against-average and .625 save percentage during the homestand, while Chloe Thompson pitched in with a defensive save against No. 14 Washington & Lee on Sunday.

Overall this season, Christopher Newport stands seventh in the NCAA in goals per game with a 4.71 average. Meanwhile, the team also sits fourth in penalty corners per contest (13.14) and fifth in assists per game (3.14). On an individual level, Logue and Evans both rank in the top-100 nationally in points per game. Logue is 67th with a 2.00 mark, while Evans is 91st with a 1.86 average.

Along with Evans and Kerr, the Captains have consistently utilized all of their freshmen this season. Evans, Gwendolyn Via, Brie Mallozzi, and Joelie Erwin have all appeared in each of the seven games this year, while Kerr sports a 1-0 record and .857 save percentage during her time between the pipes.

Catholic is coming off of a 3-2 setback against Ursinus on Saturday after back-to-back overtime victories against Dickinson and Washington (Md.). In the loss to the Bears, Molly McEvoy collected three points, while Niki Micciche also had a strike. On the other end of the field, Abigail Kearney collected seven saves in 60 minutes of action.

So far this season, Micciche leads the Cardinals with seven points, while McEvoy, Kellie Caputo, and Ashley Martin have two goals apiece. Defensively, Kearney has a .667 save percentage and 2.06 goals-against-average during her time in the cage.

In 17 previous match-ups between the two programs, Christopher Newport holds an 11-6 edge in the series. The Captains won last year's tilt, 4-0, behind three goals and an assist by Abby Asuncion.

Following Wednesday's battle, Christopher Newport will return to action on Saturday when the team remains on the road for a Saturday showdown with Wilson in Pennsylvania. That game is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m. and will be played at Chambersburg High School.
