NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- With two more shutouts added to his ledger, the fifth-year senior between the pipes for Christopher Newport men's soccer,
Ethan Larson, has earned his second Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week recognition.
The Captains have swept all three honors so far this season, with Larson picking up a pair and
Kyle Stenzel earning last week's recognition as the top defender in the league.
This weekend, the Christopher Newport men's soccer team picked up a pair of quality wins against teams ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll. The Captains (5-1-0) defeated No. 23 Covenant College, 1-0, before turning away No. 25 UT Dallas by the same score, 1-0. In goal for all 180 minutes of the action was Larson, sealing up two wins and two more shutouts.
Larson made three saves in each game, while also making top-notch decisions away from the goalmouth to turn away a pair of aggressive attacks for the Scots and Comets. With his strong play, he became the first CNU goalkeeper to notch back-to-back shutouts against nationally-ranked opponents since CNU Hall of Famer Justin Wolfe in 2010.
With a pair of clean sheets, Larson lowered his season goals-against average to 0.37 in just under 485 minutes of action. He has made 10 saves and allowed two goals through the first six starts of the season while pitching three solo shutouts and playing all but 27 and a half minutes of the team's fourth blanking this year.
The Captains will be back in action on Saturday, September 24 at 6:00 p.m. against Mary Washington.
