Shreya Ganta Repeats as CoSIDA Academic All-District Selection

GREENWOOD, Ind. -- Punctuating a stellar career both on and off the course, Christopher Newport senior golfer Shreya Ganta earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for the second straight year. The All-American earned the honor from the College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA) as a member of the At-Large team with field hockey player Abby Asuncion and nine other honorees from District 5.

Ganta joins an exclusive list of only four Christopher Newport student-athletes to earn multiple Academic All-District certificates over the last two years. She is joined by men's lacrosse standouts Dylan Rice and Max Wayne, alongside men's soccer star Davis Pillow. Only 15 Captains have ever garnered multiple Academic All-District selections all-time at CNU including the quartet from 2020-22.

The prestigious honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Only ten women's golfers earned the recognition this year as part of the highly-competitive "At-Large" category, which includes athletes from field hockey, lacrosse, swimming, golf, tennis, and a variety of other sports. Ganta will now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot where first-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early June.

Wrapping up an outstanding career as one of the top golfers in the young program's history, Ganta became the first player to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships for a second time when the NCAA announced the field on May 2. An honorable mention All-American in 2021, Ganta finished her final season in the Royal Blue and Silver with a team-best 76.5 scoring average. She had one top-five and two top-ten finishes on the year, including an impressive 147 (+3) at the Savannah Invitational to finish tied for fourth out of 81 players.

This season, she lowered her career average to 78.9 after 52 rounds of action to close her career ranked second all-time. She fired four of the top-eight low scores for Christopher Newport in 2021-22 and signed for a sub-80 score in all but two of her 13 rounds in 2021-22.

Last year, she earned first team All-State and All-Region honors before collecting All-American plaudits.

She majored in Cellular, Molecular, and Physiological Biology and boasted the third-highest cumulative GPA among seniors on the eleven Academic All-District selections in District 5. She has twice been named a WGCA Scholar All-American and is a three-time Academic All-Conference selection.
