NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University, the top-ranked team in the nation for the third straight week, hosts Meredith College Sunday at Captains Park. The softball doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. at Captains Park. Prior to first pitch, Senior Day ceremonies will take place as the Captains honor and recognize the achievements of seven senior members.
Christopher Newport is 25-1, and coming off a doubleheader sweep last Sunday over Greensboro College at Captains Park. CNU is now 13-0 at home this season, and won its first 23 games of the season.
Keith Parr's squad continues to lead the country in home runs (47), runs scored (262), runs per game (10.0), and slugging percentage (.683). The Captains are third in the nation in hits with 287 over the first 26 games.
Meredith College was 16-6 heading into the weekend. The Avenging Angels were scheduled to host Methodist University for a doubleheader Saturday in Raleigh, N.C. CNU and Meredith have played 31 times in the past, and the Captains hold a 28-3 lead in the all-time series.
Senior Day ceremonies will begin Sunday at approximately 1:00 p.m. The outstanding senior class consists of
