Paul Crowley today announced the release of the 2022 Captains football schedule. CNU will open its 22nd season of gridiron action on Saturday, September 3
rd, at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Va. Crowley will make his home debut on the CNU sideline a week later, on Saturday, September 10
th, when the Captains entertain Averett University in a 7:00 p.m. start at TowneBank Stadium.

"It's a great feeling to see the schedule that we will be facing," Crowley said. "Everyone associated with the program is very excited about the job that lies ahead. Christopher Newport football has fantastic support from our students, alumni, and community, and we are fortunate to have six opportunities to play at TowneBank Stadium this coming year."

The 2022 season will be the eighth for the Captains as a member of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), and the opening game at Washington & Lee will be one of four non-conference matchups for the Captains. Christopher Newport's final six games of the season will be NJAC contests.

"I am excited for our alumni, family, and friends to return to TowneBank Stadium in the fall for Coach Crowley's first season leading our football program," McMullin said. "Paul and his staff are hard at work making sure our students are making the most of their spring season and are prepared for this fall. This schedule provides our student-athletes with a slate that will challenge them while also affording Captains fans many opportunities to cheer them on and enjoy beautiful fall Saturdays on campus."

CNU will play six home games at TowneBank Stadium in 2022; three in September, two in October, and one in November. After the home opener against Averett on September 10
th, the Captains will host the Apprentice School on Saturday, September 17
th in a 7:00 p.m. start. It will mark the first meeting ever with the Builders.

Family Weekend will feature a home game against Catholic University on Saturday, September 24
th, with kickoff set for 2:00 p.m. CNU will also host Rowan University on Saturday, October 1
st. The Captains home schedule also features a game during Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, October 22
nd, against William Paterson University at 1:00 p.m. The home regular-season schedule will conclude on Saturday, November 5
th, with a 1:00 p.m. start against the College of New Jersey.

Christopher Newport's road games will also include NJAC battles at Kean University (October 15th), Montclair State University (October 29th), and Salisbury University (November 12th).

The Christopher Newport football program began play in 2001, and has enjoyed tremendous success over its first 21 seasons. The Captains were 5-5 overall last year and 3-3 in the NJAC. CNU has compiled an all-time record of 128-82 for a winning percentage of .610. Â The Captains have won ten conference titles, and recorded an all-time conference record of 103-42 (.710). Christopher Newport has advanced to the NCAA Tournament ten times, including the first four years in program history.
