NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Christopher Newport senior Sondra Fan (Poquoson, Va.) was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year and Bill Broderick picked up Conference Coach of the Year plaudits to headline the Captains' All-League selections released on Tuesday. Fan was joined by senior Natalie Terwilliger (Alexandria, Va.) and junior Anaya Simmons (Williamsburg, Va.) as first team All-Conference picks, marking the first time in program history three Captains were named first team all-League. 

The 2021-22 Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference awards were released Tuesday afternoon with the historic haul for Christopher Newport. Fan is the first League Player of the Year for CNU Women's Basketball since joining the Capital Athletic Conference, now known as the C2C, in 2013-14. She is the first player in the Bill Broderick era to be named Player of the Year and the first Captain since CNU Athletics Hall of Famer Chelsie Schweers won three of four from 2008-11 to garner the recognition. Overall, she is the eighth Captain in the history of the program to be selected as the top player in the conference. 

Joining her in the major award announcement was Broderick, picking up his third "Bill Finney" C2C Coaching Staff of the Year selection. With assistant coaches Alex Tomlinson, Terrance Gist, Courtney Collins, and Tyanka Lee, the Captains finished out a perfect 22-0 regular season. It was just the second time in CNU Women's Basketball history that the Captains have posted a perfect run through the regular season and CNU remains one of only three teams in NCAA Basketball, men's or women's, at any level without a loss. The Captains are riding a program-record 39-game winning streak heading into the postseason and have been recognized as the No. 1 team in the nation by both the D3hoops.com media poll and the WBCA Coaches Poll. So far this season, only three teams have led by more than four points in a game against the Captains and CNU ranks second in the nation in scoring margin and turnover margin. 

Making history in the All-League selections, the Captains earned three first team All-Conference picks in 2021-22. For the first time in program history and the first time in the league since 1993-94, three players from one team were named to the first team.

Fan, a D3hoops.com Preseason All-American and 2019-20 All-Region selection, elevated her game in her senior season as she is one of the top shooters int he nation this season. Fan ranks fifth nationally in three-point field goal percentage, knocking down 43.2% of her shots from beyond the arc while leading the league. She leads the team on both ends of the floor with 14.0 points per game and 49 steals so far. Fan has started 21 games and averaged 19.8 minutes per game. 

Terwilliger earned her second All-Conference selection after helping CNU dominate the paint this season. Averaging 10.4 points and a team-leading 6.2 rebounds per game, Terwilliger has also enjoyed a career-best season in blocked shots with 41. She is shooting over 50% from the field while also knocking down 92.9% of her attempts from the free-throw line. Terwilliger is a tough matchup both inside and out as she has also showcased an ability to knock down the three with 65 made shots beyond the arc in her career. 

Rounding out the Captains' first team All-Conference trio is junior Anaya Simmons two years after earning Conference, State, and D3hoops.com Region Rookie of the Year honors. She has continued her career-long trend as one of the most efficient offensive players in program history and ranks second in the nation this season. Simmons has knocked down 121 of her 191 attempts for a 63.4% field-goal percentage. Her 13.1 points and 4.3 rebounds per game are second on the team while she also ranks second in steals (44) and blocked shots (21).

CNU will return to action this Friday, February 25 as they appear in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Semifinals. Tip off for the Captains is set for Noon.
