Sondra Fan (Poquoson, Va.) was named a 2021-22 CoSIDA Academic All-District selection on Thursday afternoon in recognition of her excellenece on the court and in the classroom. The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the Academic All-District Teams at Noon on Thursday, marking just the second time in program history a Captain was among the honored players.
Fan joins Barbara Davis (2010-11) as the only CNU Women's Basketball players to garner Academic All-District recognition. She is the third Captain, joining Davis Pillow and Jessica Zimmermann from the soccer programs, to earn Academic All-District plaudits in the 2021-22 year so far.
The Captains' leading scorer in 2021-22 was one of six players selected as first team Academic All-District picks for District 5, which includes programs from 12 different states. She boasts a 3.72 cumulative GPA as a Finance major while starting all 20 games played for the Captains this year.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America and All-District teams are the longest-running and most prestigious academic and athletic award for student-athletes. Fan will now be nominated among the rest of the first team All-District selections for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. All nominees must have a GPA of 3.30 or above and be a starter or important reserve.
This year, Fan ranks in the top-five nationally in three-point field goal percentage while knocking down 44.8% of her shots from long range. She leads the team with 14.5 points per game while averaging just over 19 minutes per contest. She has hauled in 2.2 rebounds per game while also grabbing 2.5 steals per contest as part of the Captains' ball-hawking defense. She has also dished out 43 assists while taking care of the basketball better than ever before with just 31 turnovers.
For her career, Fan has scored 990 career points for an average of 12.4 per game. She has shot 46.5% from the field in 80 career games while knocking down over 40% from long range. That mark ranks fourth in program history while she is also in the top-five for total triples made.

Fan and the Captains will close the regular season at home on Saturday, February 19 as they host Salisbury University at 6:00 pm.
