CNU Women's Tennis Returns to Action With Two Matches Away from Home This Weekend

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Christopher Newport women's tennis will face a challenging slate this weekend as they head back into action on the campus of Washington and Lee University for a pair. The Captains will first travel to face the host Generals (2-0) at 4:00 p.m. before taking on Sewanee (1-0) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Both teams wrapped up the 2020-21 season ranked in the top-ten of the ITA Division III National Rankings; Sewanee was pegged No. 6 in the final poll and Washington and Lee was ranked No. 9. Christopher Newport was also in the top 25, ranked No. 24 in the most recent poll released by the ITA.

The Captains opened the fall season last weekend with a 1-1 record against Division I competition. CNU opened with a setback to George Mason University before dropping Hampton University in the second bout.

Leading the way, newcomer Raine Weis has started the year 2-0 in both singles and doubles play. Weis paired with Tessa Trate for a 2-0 start at No. 1 doubles while adding a couple of wins at No. 2 singles. Trate is nationally ranked in singles action and has started 1-1 on the top line.

CNU will take on the Generals for the ninth time while taking on the University of the South for the second time in program history.
