NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- After another undefeated week of action, the Christopher Newport women's soccer team held it's position at No. 4 in the Week 3 United Soccer Coaches Division III National Rankings released on Tuesday. Christopher Newport is 7-0-0 to start the year for just the second time in program history. 

Ranked ahead of the Captains is an unchanged trio of unbeaten teams in TCNJ (7-0-0), Johns Hopkins (5-0-1), and Washington University (Mo.) (8-0-1). MIT (9-0-1) moved up one spot to round out the nation's top five teams. 

Christopher Newport added three shutout wins to their docket last week and improved to 7-0 under the direction of first-year head coach Jamie Gunderson. It is the first time since 2000 that a CNU women's soccer team has opened the year without a loss or a tie in it's first seven games. 

CNU dropped Randolph-Macon (1-0), UC Santa Cruz (1-0), and California Lutheran (3-0) in last week's action with five different goal scorers and six different players contributing at least one point. Defensively, senior goalkeeper Haley Eiser played every minute to earn three clean sheets and went on to be named the Conference Defensive Player of the Week. 

Originally scheduled to be a week off, Christopher Newport now has two games this week as they will host Sewanee on Thursday, September 30 before welcoming Virginia Wesleyan University for a makeup game on Sunday, October 3. 

The Captains remain one of only nine teams in Division III and one of only 19 teams in all of the NCAA in the nation with a perfect record. CNU ranks 13th in goals-against average and in the top-50 for scoring offense. Eiser ranks 10th nationally in goals-against average with a 0.175 mark and ninth in save percentage at 0.933.
