FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Highlighting the second day of action at the 2021 ITA Southeast Regional Championships, Christopher Newport junior Kendra Womack won a pair of matches in the B2 Draw and won the flight championship. CNU captured four singles wins and one doubles victory on the second day, wrapping up action in this year's small college tournament. 

Womack carried her first-round momentum into the semifinals of the B2 draw where she faced off against Alessandra Armour of Ursinus College first thing in the morning. She quickly worked through an 8-3 victory to set up her berth into the finals, facing Franklin & Marshall's Clara Kei March Okuyama in the afternoon. 

Womack trailed 2-1, 4-3, and again at 5-4 before she finally broke Okuyama's serve and took a 6-5 lead. From there, she cruised through the final two games including a perfect match point to win the flight with an 8-5 victory. 

Also playing away from the championship draw was Megan Bauer, who picked up one of the Captains' victories on Sunday. Bauer was exceptional against DIckinson's Molly Michel, wrapping up an 8-1 win for the win. Also in consolation play, Kiersten Chang bounced back in the championship flight for a win of the same score against Valentina Santos from Randolph College. 

Two Captains played matches in the championship draw as Reagan Delp took on a Round of 16 opponent and Tessa Trate appeared in the Quarterfinal round. In both hard-fought matches, the Captains won the first set but their foes rallied for wins in the second and third to eliminate the CNU players. Delp took on No. 9 Seed Sarah Yang from Carnegie Mellon University and suffered a well-earned 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 victory to advance to the quarters. Then, later in the day Trate faced Washington & Lee's Margaret Carlton in the round of eight. The sophomore won the first, 7-5, and stretched Carlton to nine and ten games in the next two sets. The quality back-and-forth match fell in favor of the Generals by a final score of 4-6, 6-0, 6-4. 

In doubles action, CNU garnered it's lone win of the weekend in the Championship consolation bracket when Raine Weis and Amanda Yermal paired up to give their first round partners added time before their championship singles matches. Playing together for the first time this season, Weis and Yermal managed an 8-3 win over Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference rival Salisbury. Veronica Cuellar and Katherine Tamesis played together for the Sea Gulls. 

CNU will return to action at the Sweet Briar Invite from October 8-10 to conclude the fall portion of their schedule.
