CNU Women's Tennis Set to Face #3-Seed Salisbury in Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Semifinals

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- After a grueling schedule to end the regular season saw the Christopher Newport women's tennis team play three ranked opponents and a Division I foe in the last five matches, postseason action begins on Friday as the Captains take on third-seeded Salisbury at 5:30 p.m. CNU, the #2 seed in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Championship, will look to use that experience to help propel them into the first ever C2C title bout on Saturday.

New rankings were released on NCAA.com on Friday, listing Christopher Newport as No. 7 in the Atlantic South. Salisbury checks in at No. 12 and enters the match with a 3-3 overall record. CNU is 6-6 and features a pair of regionally-ranked singles players in No. 7 Reagan Delp and No. 12 Tessa Trate

Playing at No. 1 singles all season, Delp has helped anchor a talented lineup that includes three players with seven wins or more in the shortened 12-match season. Delp is 7-4 with a 3-1 record against conference competition; senior Kara Ferner leads the team with eight wins, including a 3-0 mark at No. 2; and Trate is 7-2 during her rookie campaign while playing exclusively on the second line.

In doubles action, the Captains are 8-4 at No. 2 with Delp and Ferner pairing for the majority of those victories (7-4). On the top line, Trate has played with Amanda Yermal for a 7-4 overall record including a perfect run through C2C action at 4-0.

Salisbury played just six matches this spring with a 1-1 record out of conference and the four scheduled C2C bouts. The Sea Gulls are coming off a 9-0 setback to top-seeded Mary Washington which followed a 7-2 win at Southern Virginia.

The winning team will advance to the 2021 Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday, set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
