INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Becoming the second player in program history to qualify for the NCAA Division III Women's Golf National Championship, junior
Shreya Ganta was selected as one of six individuals to compete in this year's event. The NCAA Division III Women's Golf Committee has announced the teams and individuals selected to participate in the 2021 Championships, including Ganta representing Christopher Newport University.
In just the fourth year of the program, Christopher Newport now has had two players selected to compete in the championship event. Ganta joins teammate
Erica Whitehouse who earned a trip to the 2019 championship in CNU's second year of play.
The championships will be held May 11-14 at Forest Akers Golf Courses (West Course) in Lansing, Michigan and will be hosted by Olivet College and the Greater Lansing Sports Authority. The team and individual champions will be determined after 72 holes of play. Twenty-five teams and six individuals not on one of those teams were selected to compete; after 36 holes of competition, the field will be cut to the top 15 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams.
A total of 131 participants will compete at the 2021 championships. A comprehensive COVID-19 testing process will be conducted at the championships site for the 2021 Division III Women's Golf Championships.

Ganta enjoyed a career-best season in 2021 as she led the team with a 77.9 stroke average in 10 rounds of action. She registered three top-five finishes in four events and finished among the top-ten in all four tournaments played. She signed for a career-low 72 in the second round of the VSGA Intercollegiate Championship to capture second place in the event. She also posted a third-place showing at The Savannah Invitational with back-to-back sub-80 cards and also finished in the 70's in two of three rounds in both the Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate and the Golfweek DIII Spring Invitational.
In 35 career rounds, Ganta ranks second all-time for the Captains with a 79.7 stroke average. This season, the junior from Ashburn, Va. ranks 15th in the Golfstat.com Individual Player Rankings with an adjusted scoring average of 77.40. She has a 28-6 record against players ranked in the top-100 of the ranking system.
