NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference schedule opens on Saturday for Christopher Newport University, as the sixth-ranked Captains host the Knights of Southern Virginia University. The softball doubleheader at Captains Park is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.

Keith Parr's team has a record of 18-8 so far this season, and the Captains are coming off a doubleheader split on Tuesday at William Peace University in Raleigh, N.C. The Coast-to-Coast schedule this spring will feature six total games, consisting of three doubleheaders against Southern Virginia, Salisbury, and Mary Washington. Finlandia and Mount Mary are also members of the C2C softball conference.
Southern Virginia comes into the twin bill also following a split on Wednesday at Eastern Mennonite. SVU is 4-12 heading into Saturday's action, and the Knights are also opening C2C play.

The Captains have been led at the plate this season by juniors
Bailey Roberts and
Kaitlyn Hasty. Roberts, the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week this week, tops the team in batting with a .426 average. Hasty, who is hitting .370, leads the squad in home runs with seven and runs batted in with 21. The All-American has now hit 30 career home runs, fourth all-time in program history, and her next RBI will be the 100th of her career.

Emily Weatherholtz has tallied a 9-2 record this season and was selected the C2C's Pitcher of the Week this week. Sophomore
Gracie Vallejos is 8-4 and has struck out 95 batters in 86 innings of work.
