Christopher Newport Releases 2021 Football Schedule

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Christopher Newport University Director of Athletics Kyle McMullin and Head Football Coach Art Link today unveiled the 2021 Captains football schedule. Christopher Newport will open at home on Saturday, September 4th, hosting the Generals of Washington and Lee during Labor Day Weekend. The 5:00 p.m. start will be the first meeting ever with W&L, and the first of five games scheduled this fall at TowneBank Stadium.

"I know Captains fans everywhere are looking forward to an exciting season at TowneBank Stadium this fall," McMullin said. "We will continue to follow the guidance of our public health experts as well as local and state governments, and I am hopeful by September we'll be able to welcome our family, alumni, and fans."

Art Link's squad will also host Ferrum College in non-conference play on Saturday, September 18th, in a 6:00 p.m. kickoff. The game will be a part of Christopher Newport's 60th Anniversary Celebration.

"We are very excited to face a full schedule of games this fall," Link said. "This schedule includes some very strong regional programs to go along with our always-competitive NJAC schedule. It's going to be great for our student-athletes, families and CNU community."

The upcoming ten-game fall season will mark the 20th full season in the program's history. The Captains played a brief two-game spring season after last fall's season was canceled.

Christopher Newport will have home contests Family Weekend on Saturday, October 2nd, hosting Kean University, and Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, October 30th, against Salisbury. Both games will kick off at 1:00 p.m. The Captains will begin a stretch of six straight Saturday afternoon games in the New Jersey Athletic Conference when they host the Cougars of Kean on October 2nd.

Christopher Newport will play non-conference road games at Averett University on September 11th in Danville, Va., and at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. on September 25th. The contest to conclude September will also be the first meeting ever with Catholic.

The Captains will also travel to play NJAC road contests at William Paterson on October 9th as well as at The College of New Jersey on October 23rd.  The November schedule features just one game on the road at Rowan on November 6th, followed by a bye week before any potential post-season play.
