Christopher Newport Announces Changes to 2020 Football Schedule

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Christopher Newport University Director of Athletics Kyle McMullin today announced several changes to the 2020 Captains football schedule due to the ongoing pandemic.

The changes include the cancellation of the scheduled season-opening game at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, on September 5th. In addition to the season opener, the College of New Jersey previously announced the cancellation of its entire fall sports schedule, eliminating the scheduled October 24th game in Ewing, N.J., between the Captains and Lions.

Along with the two cancellations, a starting time has also been changed. Christopher Newport's home game vs. Wesley College at TowneBank Stadium on November 14th will be moved to a 6:00 p.m. kickoff.

"While we are looking forward to the return of our student-athletes to campus in August and the resumption of athletic events, there will have to be some schedule adjustments along the way," McMullin said. "The health and safety of our student-athletes is always the top priority, and we are using an abundance of caution as we prepare for the fall seasons."

"I look forward to resuming our series with North Central in the future when conditions allow," McMullin continued. "We are also exploring other scheduling options for the fall to possibly replace the canceled games."

The 2020 football season will be the 20th in the history of the Captains football program. Please continue to monitor CNUsports.com for further updates and schedule adjustments.
