Kara Ferner earned a singles and doubles win for the Captains to highlight the afternoon's performance for Christopher Newport.
Christopher Newport dropped the first match at No. 2 doubles before
Reagan Delp and Ferner earned an 8-3 win against Valerie Marshall and Ashton Jenne at No. 3. The tough match at No. 1 featured
Johanna Ranta-aho and
Olivia Reed, the senior tandem for Christopher Newport, outlasting Lily Horsley and Taylor Garcia for the Generals, 8-5.Â
In singles play, W&L won the first four matches to clinch the team victory before Ferner earned the lone singles point for the Captains at No. 5. She downed Anna Kreynin 0-6, 7-5, 10-7 to pick up the win.Â
Three of the singles bouts went to a third set as Marta Mikos needed extra time to defeat Ranta-aho at No. 1 (0-6, 6-3, 6-2) and Claire Lacksen held off Captains' newcomer
Kendra Womack at No. 6 (7-6, 6-7, 10-1).Â
Christopher Newport, now 0-3 to start the season, will host Millsaps College on Saturday, February 15 at 12:30 p.m. in their next match.Â
