NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport is riding a six-game winning streak, and Saturday the Captains begin Capital Athletic Conference play.
Keith Parr's squad, ranked seventh in the country with a 15-3 record, hosts Wesley College for a CAC doubleheader at Captains Park. The first game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
Christopher Newport was selected as the top team in the CAC's pre-season poll in a vote of conference head coaches. The Wolverines of Wesley, 10-6-1 so far, will also be seeing their first conference action of the season. Wesley was picked to finish sixth in the eight-team conference.
CNU has won all eight games with Wesley over the last four seasons, including a doubleheader sweep last season in Dover by scores of 6-3 and 7-2. The Captains are coming off a doubleheader sweep on Wednesday over DePauw at Captains Park, with the Captains taking the opener, 3-2, and then the nightcap, 8-0, in five innings. The Captains are now 8-2 playing at home this season.

Emerald Cheesbrew, who is hitting .500 with a team-high six home runs this season. Senior centerfielder
Leah Andrews, the CAC Player of the Week this week, and freshman designated hitter
Patty Maye Ohanian have both recorded a team-best 25 base hits. Ohanian also leads the team with 27 runs batted in. Sophomore
Grace Wild tops the squad with 24 runs scored, and Wild and Andrews have each stolen a team-high five bases.

Aubrey Bates has recorded a 7-0 record to date, with 33 strikeouts in 46 innings pitched. Freshman
Emily Weatherholtz has the low ERA on the staff at 2.16.
