SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Looking for their first win of the spring season, the nationally-ranked Christopher Newport women's tennis team will stay on the road as part of a nine-match swing away from home to start the dual season. This weekend, the Captains will take on No. 33 New York University in a neutral site matchup on Saturday before taking on host Swarthmore College on Sunday.
The Captains are 1-2 to start the year with a pair of losses to nationally-ranked opponents. The road trip to Swarthmore College will feature the last two matches before the team heads to California for it's annual tour of the Golden State.
The Saturday bout against NYU is the first all-time meeting between the two programs. On Sunday, CNU will play Swarthmore for just the second time, with the Garnet capturing a win against the Captains in 2014.
Sophomore
Johanna Ranta-aho leads the squad with four singles victories in her second year, including one on the top line in dual action. She also has a pair of victories with
Kate Huck in doubles action.
