SALISBURY, Md. --
With the Capital Athletic Conference Championship on the line, the 16th-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will square off with No. 7 Salisbury in a top-20 showdown at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Sea Gull Stadium.

Looking to defend their conference crown, the Captains enter the bout with a 13-5 record. The Sea Gulls, who won the previous four titles before being unseated by CNU last year, come in with a 15-2 ledger.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at SUSeaGulls.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

Earning their spot in the title bout, the Captains toppled Frostburg State, 7-0, in a first-round contest before upending York (Pa.), 2-1, in the semifinals. Courtnie Greene headlined the squad's victory over the Bobcats with two goals and an assist, which earned her the CAC Offensive Player of the Week Award. On Wednesday, Courtney Fiest registered three points against the Spartans, including the game-winning tally with five minutes left in regulation.

Along with the headliners, Jackie Kotoriy scored a goal in both contests. She has found the back of the cage at least once in each of the team's last four postseason games dating back to last year. Meanwhile, on the defensive side, Olivia Davis has a 0.67 goals-against-average and .889 save percentage in the playoffs, while both Brittan Muir and Izzy Diz have a pair of defensive saves.

Overall this season, Christopher Newport ranks ninth nationally in save percentage (.847) and 12th in goals-against-average (0.81). The squad's nine shutouts are also tied for the 12th most in the country. Meanwhile, on the other side of the field, Salisbury boasts an equally stingy defensive unit. The Sea Gulls are 10th in goals-against-average (0.71) and have 10 shutouts.

Salisbury earned its spot in the championship with a 3-0 victory over Mary Washington in the semifinals. The Sea Gulls earned a first-round bye after winning the regular season title. Against the Eagles, Lexi Butler and Jenna Partilla both registered three points, while Dom Farrance pieced together her fifth 70-minute shutout of the year.

So far this season, Tara Daddio leads the CAC with 18 goals and 41 points, while Partilla and Tara Flavin are tied for sixth in the league with seven goals. Meanwhile, Farrance leads the league with a 0.72 goals-against-average. That also places her 10th in the NCAA.

CNU and Salisbury last met on October 24 with the Sea Gulls capturing a 2-1 victory in Maryland. Kotoriy registered Christopher Newport's lone strike, while Davis made six saves. Daddio scored an early goal for SU before Partilla came back with the game-winner with less than four minutes left in regulation.

Overall, Salisbury holds an 18-5 edge in the all-time series. This marks the fourth time the two teams have met in the CAC Championship. SU won the 2013 and 2014 titles, while CNU took last year's crown.
