Live Stats // Video Stream

HARRISONBURG, Va. --
The 11th-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will return to action on Sunday at noon when the Captains take on Centre in a neutral-site tilt at Eastern Mennonite's Turf Field in Harrisonburg.

The Captains enter the contest at 7-1, including 2-1 away from Newport News. Meanwhile, Centre is 5-2 with a 2-2 mark on the road.

For those fans unable to attend the contest, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

Christopher Newport enters Sunday on a three-game roll, including a 1-0 win over Lynchburg on Wednesday. During that contest, Ariana Samuel scored off an assist by Rachael Allshouse, while Olivia Davis registered five saves to earn the victory. Although the Hornets managed to secure seven corners in the game, CNU brushed aside every attempt while picking up the team's fifth shutout of the year.

Samuel's strike against Lynchburg marked her third in the last four games. Coupled with Courtney Fiest's eight goals and Jackie Kotoriy's two tallies, at least one sophomore has scored in every game this season for CNU. The second-year standouts also boast 11 of the team's 25 assists. Kotoriy leads the team with seven helpers, Fiest has contributed a pair, and both Samuel and Lily Bryngelson have notched one apiece.

Along with Christopher Newport's offensive efforts, the squad's defense ranks among the national leaders in several categories. The Captains stand eighth in both goals-against-average (0.22) and save percentage (.868). The squad's nine shutouts are also tied for the ninth-most in the country.

Providing an interesting match-up, CNU will square off against one of the nation's elite offenses on Sunday. Riding a five-game winning streak, Centre comes into the tilt ranked fourth in the country with a 4.86 goals-per-game average. Overall, the Colonels have out-scored their opposition by an average of 3.72 goals per contest, which stands as the seventh-best mark in the NCAA.

On an individual level, Sarah Biggs is eighth in the nation with a 1.43 goals-per-game average, while Savannah Elpers is 12th with a 1.29 mark. Meanwhile, Emily Schank is averaging 0.71 assists-per-contest, which stands 17th in the NCAA. On the defensive side, Kristen Mulcahy has compiled a 1.45 goals-against-average and a .679 save percentage.

In six previous meetings, Christopher Newport holds a 6-0 edge in the all-time series with Centre. Last year, the Captains posted a 2-1 win in Newport News. Allshouse scored both of the goals for CNU, while Mulcahy collected nine saves for the Colonels.
