FROSTBURG, Md. -- The nationally-ranked CNU women's soccer team is back in action on Saturday afternoon, taking on Frostburg State University in Capital Athletic Conference play at 3:00 pm. The Captains (7-1-0, 1-0-0) and Bobcats (3-7-0, 1-0-0) are set to play in Maryland with live stats and live video presented by the FSU athletics department.
A four-way tie atop the Capital Athletic Conference women's soccer standings will likely be severed to at least just two teams on Saturday, as the St. Mary's (Md.) Seahawks host Mary Washington, and the 21st-ranked Captains head to Frostburg State. All four teams opened 1-0 last weekend, including a 2-1 overtime victory for CNU over Penn State Harrisburg. The Bobcats earned their first conference win with a 2-1 win at Salisbury.
The Captains, ranked as high as No. 15 in the nation this week, will come in winners in seven of their first eight games. CNU carries a 12-game regular season conference winning streak into the contest, which began on October 22, 2016. It is the fourth longest win streak against league competition in program history.Â
Leading the Captains dynamite offense has been three double-figure scorers including senior All-American
Gabby Gillis. The senior midfielder has scored 18 points on 7 goals and 4 assists. Sophomore
Riley Cook ranks second on the team with 17 points, scoring 7 goals and adding 3 assists. Rounding out the talented trio is one of the hottest players in the conference,
Carson Pokorny, after scoring at least one point in each of the last four games. The junior forward now has 10 points on four goals and two assists, including a two-goal performance in CNU's win at Methodist earlier this week.Â
All three of CNU's' leading scorers are ranked in the top five among the league leaders, including first and second with Gillis and Cook pacing the league. On the other side, Frostburg State has struggled on the offensive end, scoring just six goals in their first 10 games. Danielle Ferris leads the team with two goals scored, while Brooke Shehade and Hailey Turney have each added one goal and one assist.Â
Equally as strong on the defensive end, the Captains have held opponents to just six goals in eight games this season. A 0.74 goals-against average leads the league as the veteran back line has kept opposing offenses out of the zone all year long. Frostburg goalkeeper Rhianna Lapen has made 49 saves for the Bobcats and owns a 1.61 goals against average.Â

The Captains will have a quick turnaround following Saturday evening's conference matchup as they return to Newport News for the non-conference finale against Virginia Wesleyan University on Monday night. CNU will host the Marlins on Captains Field at 7:30 pm.Â
