BOSTON, Mass. -- Earning her fourth player of the week certificate of the season, Christopher Newport senior goalkeeper
Amy Sidaway was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. Christopher Newport is scheduled to host Southern Virginia University (8-6-1) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday night.
Sidaway hauled in her 12th career defensive player of the week selection, adding to her record total for all sports at CNU. She trails only Riley Cook, with 14, for the all-time lead in CNU women's soccer history.
Sidaway continued her dominant season in goal with three more saves and an eighth shutout in 11 games played. She and the rest of the CNU defense blanked Bridgewater, 2-0, on the road to earn head coach
Jamie Gunderson's 100th career win. Sidaway has been responsible for 54 of those 100 wins over the course of her career in goal with 41 shutouts.
With her eighth clean sheet of the season, Sidaway leads the league and ranks fifth in NCAA Division III. She also ranks fifth in save percentage (.921) and third in goals-against average (0.273). Her 41 career shutouts is tied for 14th all-time in NCAA Division III and give her a .594 career shutout percentage which leads all active players in Division III and ranks second among all NCAA goalkeepers active in Division I, II, and III.
Following the selection, the Captains will turn it's sights on the next matchup with a home game scheduled for Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. against Southern Virginia University. CNU holds a 13-0-0 all-time advantage in the series against the Knights including a 7-0-0 record at Captains Field. Live stats and a live video webcast will be available at CNUsports.com.
Last season, CNU earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory on the road when
Ellie Diehl converted in the 79th minute off a feed from
Bella Ventimiglia. The Captains outshot the Knights, 33-3, but Chloë Miller, the starter in goal for SVU all season, made four saves to keep CNU off the board. This season, Miller has played all 1,350 minutes between the pipes for the Knights and has a 1.33 GAA with 47 saves and eight shutouts. Those eight blankings have come in the last nine games as Southern Virginia has rolled through the USA South conference schedule and is 6-0-1 against league opponents.
Christopher Newport will counter with an impressive defense of their own, leaning on Sidaway and a dominant back line that is surrendering just 7.9 shots per game.
Catie Borsuk,
Nora Cook,
Bella DiTommaso, and
Malayah Warner have been nearly impenetrable this season with just three goals allowed in 990 minutes of action.
On the offensive side, rookie
Caelyn LaFlamme has a team-high six points (2g, 2a) and junior
Grace Shifflett has added five points (2g, 1a). Shifflett has a pair of game-winning goals while the CNU offense features six different game-winning goal scorers in 2026.
Following the Tuesday night tilt against SVU, the Captains will travel to Mary Washington for a Saturday afternoon pairing set for 2:30 p.m.
