CNU Women's Soccer Faces Pivotal Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Weekend Action

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Two matches are on the docket for this weekend as the Christopher Newport women's soccer team will face a tough test on the road at the University of Mary Washington (10-1-3) on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. before returning home to entertain Regent University (5-7-0) on Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. Both contests come against Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference competition just two weeks before the Captains host the postseason conference tournament.

The Captains, who are receiving votes in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Soccer Organization for Coaches (IWSOC) Division III Top 25 poll, have strung together an eight-game unbeaten streak and are now 8-1-3 on the season overall. CNU is coming off a 2-0 win over Southern Virginia on Tuesday night at home, snapping a stretch of three straight road games. On Saturday, the Captains get back on the bus for the final road trip of the year when they head up to Fredericksburg to take on the Eagles of Mary Washington. Road warriors, the Captains are 4-0-1 away from home this season and 18-1-5 as the visiting team over the last four years.

For fans unable to make the trip to the Battleground Soccer Complex on Saturday, Mary Washington will provide a live video webcast, free of charge, and live stats. Links to both can be found on the women's soccer schedule at CNUsports.com starting at kickoff. On Sunday, CNU will also have live stats and a free live video stream at 6:00 p.m. when the Captains host the Royals.

Coming into the weekend, the Captains have registered five consecutive shutouts and are riding a season-long shutout streak of 461:31. Senior goalkeeper Amy Sidaway continues to add to her historical career between the pipes for the Captains and has moved into the top-15 all-time at the NCAA Division III level in career shutouts with 42. Only one active goalkeeper among all three NCAA Division (I, II, and III) has recorded more shutouts over the last four years -- Keely Wieczorek (NCAA DII Colorado Mesa) -- and Sidaway trails her by just one clean sheet in six fewer games played.

She will have her hands full with a Mary Washington offense that reached the NCAA National Quarterfinals a year ago and has dropped just two games in the last 18 played dating back to last November. One of those was a 1-0 overtime loss to third-ranked Tufts in the Elite Eight of the 2025 postseason and the second came at the hands of Bridgewater College in game two of the 2026 season, 1-0. Since, the Eagles have run together a 12-game unbeaten streak while outscoring opponents 31-5.

Maci Landel leads the Mary Washington offense with 18 points (6g, 6a) while Elise McGee is adding 10 points (3g, 4a) so far this season. Emily Orn has played all but 52 minutes in goal this season having surrendered just six goals for a 0.45 goals-against average.

The Captains boast a dominant defense that has headlined the season for 2026 but the offense has kicked into another gear over the last four games with six goals scored including back-to-back multi-goal performances. Rookies Caelyn LaFlamme, with seven points (2g, 3a), and Alessi Carrier, with six points (3g), have been at the top of a well-balanced offense that features eight different goal scorers this season.

On Sunday, Regent will look to slow the Captains coming in having won two of their last four contests. The Royals have featured four different netminders while being led by Oghosasse Osadiaye with six starts this year. Kourtney Dalton has started three games in goal and Jayla Chatman has added a pair. On the offensive side, Sophia McMullen is the top option for Regent as she has scored nine points on four goals and one assist.

The matchup is the 28th all-time meeting between CNU and Mary Washington with the Captains holding a 19-6-2 advantage heading into Saturday. It will be the first ever appearance for Christopher Newport against Regent.

Following the weekend's double feature, the Captains will have just one regular season game remaining when they face Salisbury University on Halloween at 4:00 p.m. Senior Night at Captains Field will be played on Saturday, October 31 against the Sea Gulls.
