BALTIMORE, Md. -- The 10th-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will face another top-20 battle at No. 17 Johns Hopkins on Monday at 4:30 p.m. before returning home for a 6 p.m. showdown with St. Mary's (Md.) in a Capital Athletic Conference clash at Captains Turf Field.
Entering Monday, CNU sits at 8-3 overall, including 1-1 in league action. Meanwhile, Johns Hopkins is 12-1, and St. Mary's (Md.) stands at 7-5 with a 1-1 mark against conference foes.

Christopher Newport is looking to snap a two-game skid, including a 2-1 overtime setback at York (Pa.) on Saturday. Despite the recent stumble, the Captains have continued to receive solid contributions from its penalty corner defense. Since last Sunday, CNU has faced 39 corner attempts and brushed aside 37.
Helping out on the defensive end,
Kennedy Johnson and
Izzy Diz both have defensive saves in the last week, while
Olivia Davis has 19 stops between the pipes during that time. Meanwhile,
Brittan Muir has been a rock on the back line and established a new career record for minutes played by a field player on Saturday. She has now seen 4,480 minutes of action since 2015.
On the offensive side,
Courtney Fiest drove home her 10th strike of the year against York (Pa.), which stands as the second-most in the league this season. Fellow sophomore
Jackie Kotoriy also leads the CAC with seven assists, while
Rachael Allshouse is fourth with four.
Johns Hopkins comes into Monday on an eight-game roll, including back-to-back shutouts against McDaniel and Swarthmore. Presenting an interesting match-up against the Captains, the Blue Jays rank fifth in the nation in penalty corners per game. JHU has earned an average of 12.38 corners per contest, including a pair of successful conversions against Swarthmore on Saturday.
On an individual level, Izzy Thompson leads Hopkins with 10 goals this season, while Abby Birk has 19 points. Defensively, Jodie Baris ranks among the national leaders with a 1.00 goals-against-average while also sporting a .711 save percentage. She has also helped the Blue Jays blank six opponents this year.
St. Mary's (Md.) enters Wednesday coming off back-to-back victories, including a 3-1 triumph at Frostburg State in a CAC bout on Sunday. Against the Bobcats, Gabrielle Corder posted a goal and two assists, while Kelbey Egerland made three saves to pick up the win.
Overall this season, Corder leads the Seahawks with 11 points, while Mollie Belson and Courtney Mellon have eight apiece. Defensively, Egerland has compiled a .754 save percentage and a 1.34 goals-against-average, and Brooke Steinhoff has a pair of defensive saves.
In seven previous meetings with Johns Hopkins, CNU holds a 5-2 record against the Blue Jays. Meanwhile, the Captains have a 12-2 record all-time against St. Mary's (Md.).
