No. 25 CNU Women's Soccer Celebrates Senior Day Versus York (Pa.) Saturday; Game Time Changed to 4:00 PM

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Head coach Dan Weiler and the Christopher Newport Department of Athletics announced a game time change for Saturday's matchup against York College of Pennsylvania, now set to kick off at 4:00 pm. The Captains (10-1-0, 3-0-0) will host the Spartans (6-7-0, 2-1-0) for Senior Day as CNU hosts their final home regular season weekend game of the year.

Prior to kickoff on Saturday, the Captains will honor six seniors playing in one of their final home regular season games in a special pre-game ceremony for Senior Day. That group includes Lauren Ciccone, Gabby Gillis, Michelle Green, Katie Horenstein, Taylor Hudgins, and Kayla Locklear

The Captains are riding a five-game winning streak in which they have outscored opponents 17-2 including back-to-back 5-0 shutouts coming into Saturday's game. Leading scorers Gabby Gillis and Riley Cook have each notched hat tricks this week, and are tied for the league scoring lead with 28 points, which is a historically record-breaking pace with 2.55 points per game so far this season. The CNU record was set by Laura McFerrin with a 2.19 points per game mark in 1999.

The CNU offense is averaging 3.27 goals per game, ranking 31st in the nation, while the defense has held opponents to just a 0.64 goals-against average, ranking 47th nationally. The Captains, led by Shaye Doherty, Lulu Manley, and Keiley McCarthy,  have limited opposing offenses to just 6.8 shots per game, including only 3.4 on frame.

York (Pa.) enters Saturday's matchup as winners of their last two CAC bouts against Southern Virginia (4-0) and Penn State Harrisburg (2-0). Prior to that, the Spartans dropped a 1-0 decision to 7th-ranked TCNJ. Caitlin Rankin leads the offense with 15 points on four goals and seven assists while Natalie McCarthy has added four goals and three assists for 11 points.

CNU has never lost in the all-time series, holding a 5-0-1 advantage against the Spartans since 2013. Last season, the Captains captured a 1-0 win in Pennsylvania.

Following the Senior Day matchup on Saturday, the Captains will host Salisbury in the final home regular season game of the year on Wednesday, October 17 at 7:00 pm.
