CNU Travels to Face Salisbury University in CAC Road Doubleheader Wednesday Night

Game Notes:  CNU Women's Basketball  ||  CNU Men's Basketball

SALISBURY, Md. -- With just six games remaining in Capital Athletic Conference action, the conference postseason seeding is still very much in question on both the men's and women's side. With all four teams in the thick of the playoff hunt, the Captains will travel to Salisbury University on Wednesday for another pivotal CAC doubleheader on the road, with tip times set for 5:30 and 7:30 pm at the Maggs Center in Maryland.

Live stats will be available for both games and a live video webcast can be found at CNUsports.com/live. Links to both live stats and video are available on the men's and women's basketball schedules online. The men's game will also be broadcast live in the Hampton Roads area and online on the CNU/Pepsi Radio Network at Xtra 99.1 FM.

The men's battle between the Captains and Sea Gulls has been one of the most exciting rivalries to watch since CNU joined the CAC in 2012-13. In the last 11 matchups, CNU holds a 7-4 advantage in a tightly locked series that has seen three overtime games and an average margin of victory of just 3,7 points per game. Four of those matchups have come in the CAC Tournament including the last three championship bouts -- all of which were decided by just one point.

Earlier this season, the Captains captured a five-point win over the Sea Gulls, 71-66, to win their third straight in the series. The last loss CNU took came in the Maggs Center last season when Chad Barcikowski connected on a buzzer-beating halfcourt heave to down the Captains by one, 59-58.

Adding to the drama of the always anticipated battlle is the fact that CNU and Salisbury are currently locked in a second-place tie in the conference standings just one game behind York (Pa.). CNU carries a 15-4, 9-3 record into the matchup while Salisbury enters 13-6, 9-3. Entering Wednesday's tilt, senior Aaron McFarland is tied for 10th on the all-time scoring chart with Matt Bryant ('98) with 1,359 career points. He is leading the team in scoring this season with 17.1 points per game and has knocked down 51 triples, tied for third in the CAC.

In the first game Wednesday, the nationally-ranked CNU women's team comes into the matchup with a 17-2 overall record and 11-1 mark in conference play. The host Sea Gulls are 11-8, 6-6 and are one game up on a tie for sixth between Southern Virginia and Frostburg State.

The Captains, ranked No. 10 by the WBCA and No. 12 by D3hoops.com, have won six straight and nine of their last ten coming into Wednesday's bout. Six different players have led the team in scoring during that stretch, including a season-high 19-point scoring effort from senior Makenzie Fancher against Wesley College in CNU's last game. Eight different Captains are averaging over five points per game as the league's leading offense is averaging 77.0 points per game.

CNU will be taking on one of the league's top defensive units, as Salisbury University comes in allowing an average of just 51.5 points per game. In the first matchup this season, the Captains scored 67 points against the Sea Gulls, which is the most points allowed in a game this year. Offensively, junior Kaylyn French (10.7 ppg) and junior Megan Konig (10.2 ppg) are leading the Sea Gulls effort this season.

Following Wednesday's doubleheader, the Captains will return home to host Marymount University on Saturday, February 3. The CNU Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2018 will be inducted during halftime of the men's game at 4:00 pm.
