Christopher Newport Announces Partnership Agreement With Under Armour

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Christopher Newport University announced a multi-year partnership agreement with Under Armour on Tuesday afternoon, as the brand will begin serving as the official apparel provider of CNU Athletics this summer.

As part of the multi-year agreement, Under Armour will provide on-field and training gear for all 24 of CNU's varsity sports. Beginning July 1, 2018 the Christopher Newport student-athletes, coaches, and staff will be outfitted by the Baltimore-based global leader in performance footwear, apparel, and equipment.

"I am thrilled to have innovative partners like Under Armour and BSN Sports join hands with Christopher Newport University to support our student-athletes," said CNU Director of Athletics Kyle McMullin. "Under Armour continues to be on the leading edge of developing world-class athletic apparel, footwear, equipment and technology. Their expertise and desire to be the most progressive brand in the marketplace will benefit our student-athletes every day."

The Christopher Newport Department of Athletics is coming off one of the most successful years in program history after finishing 14th in the 2016-17 Learfield Directors' Cup, which is an annual survey used to determine the top overall collegiate athletics programs in the country. CNU boasted 12 conference championships and several impressive NCAA finishes including a Final Four run by the CNU women's basketball team and a record national finish by the CNU Men's Cross Country program.

BSN Sports will have three account representatives assigned to work directly with Christopher Newport that are student-athlete alums of the University. Matt Tonelson ('01) played four years of baseball for the Captains and will be joined by football alumnus, Justin Long ('07) and basketball alumnus, Keith Cobb ('86) in working with CNU's coaches and staff.

"BSN's team is exciting. Having Christopher Newport alumni assigned to work with our coaches and staff assures me that our partners understand the expectation of excellence we have for all aspects of our student-athlete experience," McMullin said.

CNU joins the growing Under Armour roster that includes a host of NCAA Division I partners including The College of William & Mary, the University of Notre Dame, UCLA, the University of Maryland, and many more.
