Top 25 Showdown Set for 2017 CAC Women's Tennis Championship as CNU Travels to Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- For the third straight year, the 2017 CAC Women's Tennis Championship will be decided between second-seeded Christopher Newport and top-seeded Mary Washington. This season, the match comes with even more intrigue, however, as the two teams are both ranked in the top 25 for the first time, as CNU hauled in a program-best 23rd spot in the polls and the Eagles are tabbed as the 15th best team in the country. Action begins at 11:30 at the UMW Outdoor Courts in Fredericksburg, Va.

The match will be live tweeted at the official Mary Washington feed (@umwathletics), with updates to each match as they are made available.

The Captains come into Saturday's title match with a 14-6 overall record and are making the program's third straight CAC Championship appearance, looking to secure their first title. Mary Washington is 18-5 defending 13 straight championships dating back to the 2004 season.

In the regular season matchup at home this year, Christopher Newport fell to the Eagles, 7-2, with wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles. First, the veteran tandem of McKinney Harwood and Alexandra Drye picked up an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles before rookie Johanna Ranta-aho continued her winning ways with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles. All three doubles matches were tight, with an 8-6 decision for the Eagles at No. 2 and a 9-8 (1) win for the visitors at No. 3.
