PASADENA, Calif. -- The 34th-ranked CNU women's tennis team picked up their second win of the spring break trip to California with a 7-2 victory at Caltech on Tuesday afternoon. The Captains swept doubles play and picked up five wins in singles action.
CNU raced out to a 3-0 lead after doubles, with three dominant victories. At No. 1, juniors
McKinney Harwood and
Alexandra Drye defeated Kana Moriyama and Julia Reisler, 8-2. The No. 3 tandem won by the same score, as
Emily Morgan and
Katie Carlson captured the victory against Sarah Cai and Erin Wang. Rounding out the doubles wins,
Kate Huck and
Johanna Ranta-aho downed Angelica Zhou and Alexandra Bodrova, 8-3.
Caltech picked up a single team point point in singles with the win at No. 3, but CNU raced past the Beavers with straight set wins at 1, 2, 4 and 5.
Meili Konell also won at No. 6, with a 6-1, 5-7, 10-4 win over Sarah Cai.
Nationally-ranked
Johanna Ranta-aho picked up her second win at No. 2 and team-leading ninth total singles win this year. She defeated Julia Reisler (6-1, 6-0) by giving up only one game.
CNU will wrap up the spring break trip to the Golden State on Saturday, March 10 taking on nationally-ranked Redlands at 2:00 pm.
