FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The nationally-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team will stay on the road for the final game before the Thanksgiving holiday break, taking on Methodist University on Tuesday evening at 6:00 pm. The Captains, ranked 2nd by D3hoops.com and 4th in the USA Today WBCA Coaches Poll, carries a 3-0 record into the non-conference matchup against the Monarchs, who are 0-2 to start the year.

So far this season, the Captains have leaned on the same offensive balance and stalwart defensive pressure that made them successful a year ago. CNU is averaging nearly 70 points per game with only one player averaging over 10 per contest. Defensively, CNU is allowing just 48.3 points per game while forcing over 33 turnovers per game/
Senior forward
Sam Porter enters Tuesday night's game just 14 points shy of 1,000 for her career and leads the team in scoring with 10.3 points per game. She has also grabbed 12 steals already this season while grabbing 4.0 rebounds per game. Fellow senior
Bailey Dufrene is off to a hot start, averaging 9.3 points per game to rank second on the team; she earned a spot on the McDaniel Tip-Off All-Tournament Team.
The last time these two teams met was a year ago at the Freeman Center, where the Captains doubled up the Monarchs, 100-50. The win improved CNU to 63-19 all-time against Methodist, in one of the longest active series in CNU women's basketball history, dating back to 1979-80.
Methodist opened the 2017-18 season with a 77-48 setback to Bridgewater before falling to Randolph-Macon, 72-41. The matchup against Christopher Newport is the home opener at the Riddle Center for the Monarchs. Christian Sanders leads the team so far this season with 12.0 points per game, while Kodi Centry is adding 9.0 per contest as well.
Following Tuesday night's action, the Captains will be off for over a week as they will not return to play until Wednesday, November 29 at home against Salisbury University in the Capital Athletic Conference opener. Tip against the Sea Gulls is set for 5:30 pm in the Freeman Center.
