CNU Women's Tennis Set to Take Courts for Pair of Tough Matches on Saturday in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- For the second year in a row, the Christopher Newport women's tennis team will open up dual play in the fall portion of the 2017-18 schedule, and will do so in the exact same place against the exact same competition. This weekend, the Captains will take on a pair of teams ranked nationally in the final rankings of last season, facing Oberlin College and Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday, October 7.

The action will close out thee fall slate for the Captains, who have competed in just one event so far this year. Both matches will be played on the Carnegie Mellon campus, as CNU will take on Oberlin College in a neutral site battle at Noon, followed by the match against the home team at 3:00 pm.

Live stats and live video will be available for the match against the host Tartans, starting at 3:00 pm. Links for the live scoring and video will be available on the tennis schedule at CNUsports.com.

The three teams competing this weekend were all ranked in the nation's Top 40 at the end of last season. Carnegie Mellon finished ranked No. 10, Christopher Newport No. 26 and Oberlin at No. 38.

The Captains feature a veteran team with eight seniors and ten upperclassmen on the squad. Sophomore Johanna Ranta-aho is also back after leading the team in one of the greatest freshman campaigns in program history.
