No. 9 Captains Host Senior Night Matchup against Penn State Harrisburg Saturday at 5:00 pm

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The 9th-ranked Christopher Newport women's soccer team will celebrate the careers of the 2017 senior class prior to a key Capital Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday evening, as the Captains put their unbeaten record to the test against Penn State Harrisburg at 5:00 pm.

The Captains (12-0-1, 5-0-0) will face a Lions squad that is 10-4-0 on the season with a 3-2-0 record in conference action. With just four conference games left, the bout has playoff implications for both teams as seeding for the six-team CAC Tournament is long from being decided.

For fans who can not attend the game, live stats and a live video webcast will be available at CNUsports.com/live.

Prior to the contest, a group of eight CNU seniors will be honored prior to one of their final home regular season games. The group includes Rachael Brewer, Alexis Haycraft, Kimmie Kerstiens, Carly Maglio, Carly Melkus, Alex Miller, Danielle Pratt, and Kira Warner. Ushering in a new era under head coach Dan Weiler, the senior class has averaged nearly 14 wins per season while earning at least a share of three straight regular season conference titles. They helped the Captains win the program's first CAC Championship last season and earned CNU's first NCAA Tournament victory since 2004.

This season, the Captains have paired a suffocating defense with one of the nation's elite offensive units. CNU has allowed just one goal in conference play this season for a 0.20 goals against average with four shutouts. Led by Pratt on the back line and Maglio between the pipes, the Captains defense has held opponents to just nine goals in nearly 1200 minutes of action for a 0.68 GAA.

Offensively, rookie Riley Cook has burst onto the scene with one of the finest individual seasons in program history, while breaking the rookie scoring mark with a league-leading 28 points. She has scored 12 goals and added four assists to pace a dominant offensive unit averaging 3.69 goals per game.

Penn State Harrisburg features the league's second leading scorer behind Cook in junior Kristen Stark. The Lions leader has scored 11 goals and added 1 assist for 23 points, but the danger in the Penn State Harrisburg attack lies in its depth. After Stark, no single player is in double figures for points this season, but 14 different players have registered at least one goal and the team is pouring in 2.69 goals per game.

Following the conference action on Saturday, the Captains will hit the road for a pair starting with an October 18 meeting at Salisbury University at 3:00 pm.
