CNU Women's Soccer Welcomes York (Pa.) in Conference Opener Saturday at 5:00 PM

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Capital Athletic Conference season is underway this Saturday night, as the Christopher Newport women's soccer team hosts the York College of Pennsylvania Spartans at 5:00 pm. The Captains will host the defending conference champions at Captains Field with live stats and a live video webcast available at CNUsports.com/live.

York (Pa.) enters the matchup on Saturday with a 2-4-1 overall record, coming off a 1-1 draw at Juniata on Wednesday night. The Captains are 6-1-0 after bouncing back with back-to-back wins on the road this week, including a 3-0 shutout at Rutgers-Newark in their last game.

CNU will begin defense of their three straight regular season conference crowns against the Spartans, against whom the Captains own a 3-0-1 record against since joining the CAC. Last season, CNU earned a 2-1 win over the Spartans in Newport News, with Allie McWilliams and Victoria Perry each posting a goal and an assist in the victory.

The Captains have continued to impress both offensively and defensively, scoring multiple goals in five of their seven games this season while allowing just three goals all season. Perry ranks among the national leaders in total assists, with five, while junior goalkeeper Carly Maglio is in the top 50 in both goals against average (0.43) and save percentage (.903).

On offense, Perry has continued to climb the all-time charts at CNU, and also ranks among the nation's elite across all three divisions. She is one of only 24 active players in NCAA Division I, II or III with 30 goals and 20 assists in her career, and the CNU senior ranks 20th among active players in career points (88).

Coming into the contest on Saturday, the Spartans have scored eight goals with seven different players factoring into the scoring. Georgia Gillcrist leads the way with two goals and an assist for five points. Defensively, Brittany Cullison has started all seven games with one shutout, posting a 1.63 goals against average.

The game is being played as part of a doubleheader with the men's programs, who will kick off immediately following the women's teams. Live stats and a live webcast of both games is available online at CNUsports.com/live. Following the action, the CNU women will have a week before their next game when they head back on the road to face Wesley College on Saturday, October 1.
