No. 20 CNU Men’s Lacrosse Heads to Wesley for 2 p.m. Showdown on Saturday

DOVER, Del. --
The 20th-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will head to Wesley for a Capital Athletic Conference contest at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Drass Field.
 
The Captains, who saw their four-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday, boast a 10-3 overall record and a 4-1 mark in league action. Wesley enters the weekend at 4-10 overall with an 0-6 record in CAC play.

A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS
 
So far this season, Christopher Newport has been especially productive on the road. Entering Saturday's clash, the Captains sport a perfect 5-0 record away from Newport News. During those games, the team is averaging 14.80 goals-per-game while converting 65 percent of its man-up opportunities. Equally stout on the defensive side, CNU has limited its opposition to 8.00 goals-per-game and a .244 shooting percentage on the road.
 
Overall this season, Brandon Moloney leads the CAC with 34 caused turnovers and ranks first among non-faceoff specialists with 73 ground balls. Michael Mabry also ranks eighth in the league with 21 caused turnovers, while Harrison Drier is 11th with 16. Matt Hayden also stands among the top-three in the CAC with a .552 save percentage and 139 total stops.
 
On the offensive end, Will Geise is seventh in the league with 15 assists, and Matthew Crist is eighth overall with 27 goals. Tony Cruz has also won 55 percent of his 286 faceoff attempts.
 
LAST TIME OUT
 
On Wednesday, the Captains dropped a 19-5 decision to No. 1 Salisbury. After grabbing a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter, CNU stumbled in the final three periods on the way to the setback. Against the Sea Gulls, Dave Magdeburger collected two goals, while Hayden notched 16 saves. Moloney also chipped in with four ground balls and forced a pair of turnovers.
 
SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES
 
Wesley has dropped its last four decisions and six of its previous seven outings. On Wednesday, the Wolverines fell to fourth-ranked York (Pa.), 19-4. Against the Spartans, Hunter Coho scored three goals, while Cody Ireland notched 20 saves.
 
Overall this season, Sam Seibert leads the team and ranks third in the conference with 34 goals, while Jack Redefer is sixth in the league with 33 strikes. Nate Gemmato is also tied for seventh in the CAC with 15 assists and has won 106 of his 240 faceoff attempts. On the defensive side, Nolan Vesey has forced a team-high 25 turnovers, and Ireland has a .448 save percentage and a 15.78 goals-against-average.
 
SERIES HISTORY
 
CNU and Wesley have only met twice with the Captains holding a 2-0 record in the all-time series. Last season, Christopher Newport posted a 20-4 victory. During that game, Geise led the squad with five points, including three goals.

Christopher Newport will return to action on April 13 when the team heads to St. Mary's (Md.) for a 4 p.m. match-up.
