WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Oracle/ITA Division III Women's Tennis National Rankings were released late on Thursday, with the Christopher Newport women's tennis team holding steady at No. 33 in the nation. The Captains (10-3) travel to Massachusetts this weekend for three tough matches against nationally-ranked opponents in the 2016 Nor'Easter Bowl.
The Captains have won three straight Division III matches since the last national ranking, all coming in Capital Athletic Conference play. Now, they will step outside of the league for the 5th Annual Nor'Easter Bowl, taking on No. 31 Brandeis, No. 34 Wellesley and No. 28 Babson over the next three days.
First up, the Captains will play Brandeis on their home courts at 3:00 pm on Friday, April 1. CNU will then take on the host Wellesley Blue on Saturday, April 2 at 1:00 pm with video available. Finally, the three-match weekend will conclude on Sunday, April 3 as CNU travels to Babson for a 9:00 am matchup.
Once the Captains return from the Bay State, the difficult schedule continues with a matchup against No. 18 Mary Washington in CAC action on Saturday, April 9, as part of a 7-match road trip heading into the conference tournament.
Also released on Thursday were the first Atlantic South regional rankings of the spring season, which also saw the team hold pat at No. 7. However, two Captains slipped into the individual rankings, led by a singles and doubles nod for sophomore
McKinney Harwood.
Harwood has worked her way up to No. 19 in the Singles Top 25, while also ranking, with partner
Katie Carlson, No. 8 in the Doubles Top 10. The partners have led a dominating season in doubles for the Captains, playing 12 matches at the top line with a 9-3 record. The CNU tandem is 11-5 overall in doubles action, and 7-3 over their last ten matches.
