Complete Box ScoreFAIRFAX, Va. -- The nationally-ranked Christopher Newport women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 setback on the road Saturday, falling to NCAA Division I foe George Mason University. The Captains fall to 10-3 overall this season while the Patriots improve to 8-12.
Sophomore
McKinney Harwood had a strong performance for the Captains at No. 1 singles, facing George Mason senior Brittany Pilkington. The CNU second-year forced the first set into a tiebreaker, and then captured a win in the second set before succumbing to a three-set defeat, 7-6 (5), 5-7, 10-8.Â
Harwood also played with
Katie Carlson at No. 1 doubles, falling by a score of 6-3 to Pilkington and partner Sydney Green. At No. 3 doubles, the Captains had an impressive outing from
Isabelle Wessel and
Kate Huck, but ultimately the CNU tandem would fall to Morgan Yang and Nicole Haigwood, 7-5.Â
Emily Morgan forced her opponent, Scarlett Walston, to a tiebreak in the first set at No. 6 singles, before falling by a final score of 7-6, 6-1.Â
Christopher Newport is now heading to Massachusetts for the 2016 Nor'Easter Bowl, where they will play Brandeis University, Wellesley College and Babson College, all nationally-ranked, on consecutive days starting on April 1.Â
